Join the Street Team!

Portland Rose Festival's Street Team is mobilizing forces and preparing to infiltrate new territory. Volunteers are gathering for this special mixing with the masses in a public relations campaign designed to bring the Centennial Rose Festival magic directly to the people. Offering promotional handouts like discounted WaMu Waterfront Village coupons, Centennial events calendars and merchandise, the street Team will deploy to various community events and public gathering around the Portland metropolitan area. The team is looking for (more than) a few good people to join the ranks.

The Street Team debuted at the St. John Parade in 2006 when seven team member's consisting of staff, board members and volunteers loaded up their pockets with spring brochures, Rose Festival commemorative pins, and discount coupons and hit the streets. Over four hundred items were given away to parade goers lining North Lombard Street in less than an hour as team members walked through the crowds.

The Street Team concept is simple, take the Rose Festival to the people rather than wait for them to come to us. This year Team planners are adding more parades and special events to the lists. Plans are in the works for repeat appearances at the St. Johns, Gateway, Jr. and Starlight parades and in addition the brand new 82nd Ave. of Roses Parade along Southeast 82nd Avenue April 28. Also look for the team to show up at the debut of the new Rose Festival Traveling Store as it tries out new retail locations around Portland, the Dove Lewis Run For the Love of Dove 5K run/walk in NE Portland, Farmers markets, and other community partner events.

Street Team members will stand out in the crowds wearing brightly colored easily identifiable logo t-shirts. The team will also act as Rose Festival ambassadors and be ready to answer questions about the festival in general and specific events targeted for promotion.

Meet the Princesses

Fourteen wonderful women were selected last month to represent the Portland Rose Festival Centennial and the City of Roses. Meet the Princesses

Beginning in May, the Rose Festival Court will travel throughout Portland and Oregon at community events, including meeting with business leaders, visits to hospitals and meetings with a variety of civic groups. They will also travel to Pendleton to meet the Pendleton Round-Up Court and learn how to ride a horse from real cowboys.

New to their travels this year will be a trip down the Oregon Coast where they will make stops in Astoria to meet the Astoria Regatta Ambassadors, the Scandinavian Mid-Summer Festival Court, Miss Clatsop County, the Clatsop County Rodeo Court and others. The court will then continue down the coast to Tillamook and tour the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Along the way they will visit McDonald's and thank them for sponsoring the court float in the PGE/SOLV Starlight Parade and Grand Floral Parade.
