Rose Petal Meets the Metal for the Annual Rose Cup Races
June 13, 2012
A big weekend of auto racing awaits all motor fans! This year the annual Rose Cup Races (held Friday, June 15 - Sunday, June 17 at the Portland International Raceway) will include a demonstration of Drifting. Judged according to speed, angle and line taken through a corner, professional drifting competitions are growing in popularity worldwide. The 2012 Super Drift Crown Series at Rose Cup will be a day full of activities this Saturday (10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), which includes an expo, live music, a car show and DC driver 'meet and greet' with drifting driver Hero Yoon. (Drifting demonstrations will also take place Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.)
Other events during Race weekend include the Festival Trophy Race, presented by Pro Drive Racing School featuring Spec Racer Ford group. Be sure to catch the AAA Wemme Trophy Race, with vintage cars commemorating the 1909 Portland to Gresham race that started it all in the Rose City. Then see the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA West, two races that are part of Porsche Club of America's Porsche Cup presented by Carrera Motors. Finally, you can top things off by viewing the annual Rose Cup Race, presented by Fluge Global Adventures.
The Rose Cup Race will feature cars reaching speeds over 165 mph and includes past winners Monte Shelton, Stan Hodge and local top drivers Cindi Lux, Nick Fluge, Neil Shelton and Norm Daniels -- all vying for the Monte Shelton Trophy.
