There's Silly And Then There's Clown Silly
February 19, 2010
The Rose Festival's award-winning Amtrak Cascades Character Clown Corps is accepting applications for the 2010 season -- and the deadline for applications is almost here!
Individuals 14-years or older are encouraged to release their 'silly side' and join one of the Rose Festival's most prestigious institutions of higher education. Participants attend clown school to train and perform with a European-style clown professional, receive a makeup kit and costume and learn to develop their very own clown character.
Character Clown Corps workshop dates are April 9 - 11 at the World Trade Center Portland. Participants who complete the three-day workshop will become members of an artistic Rose Festival clown troupe with 'growth opportunities' in: noses, feet, personal cosmetics, wardrobe selection and social interaction! Local professional clown Angel Ocasio (a graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College), will lead the Character Clown Corps workshop.
Twenty participants will be selected through an audition process consisting of a short comedy bit and an interview. No previous experience is required. Aspiring clowns can sign up for the Character Clown Corps by downloading an application form at our website [see link below].
Applications are due Monday, March 1, 2010.
Graduate clowns will participate in numerous festival events, including Amtrak's National Train Day on May 8 and the KeyBank Grand Floral Parade on June 12.
